I AM

(FDCI Fashion Week)

“I am” celebrates womanhood in all it’s nuances. “I am” is a sentence that is laden with a vast array of possibilities that women not only aspire for but also have accomplished in various feats of life. In this collection, we cherish those very possibilities and the phenomenal women who make those possibilities a reality. This is a story of ordinary women with scars, marks and extra inches that the society consistently looks down upon but are combating them all with extraordinary zeal and strength. We have woven in all those flaws that a woman has been imputed with and unearthed their inner beauty for the world to take sight of. This is a story of women who confront myriad challenges with confidence and emerge as the everyday warrior.

The surface development techniques are inspired from the stretch marks, blemishes, wrinkles and so called defects that the society hurls at women to undermine her spirit. Now in terms of the silhouettes, if we think of winter festive season, we, as a society have always idealized women wearing not so winter clothing in winter weddings. For example even in movies we see the heroines, dancing in chiffon saree atop a snow-capped peak while the hero is in a jacket. At weddings too, men are seen wearing jackets and coats for winter but women are left with barely any options that enable them to flaunt their gorgeous selves without shivering in the cold. Be it the marks on their bodies or the seasonal attire, women always have been burdened with the diktats of the social stereotypes. This collection is an attempt to debunk such idealization of a uniform idea of beauty and encourage the women in our lives to care for authenticity and practicality more than just to look good for the world. So in our silhouettes, we have introduced embroidered quilts instead of dupatta that is much more practical in a winter wedding. Quilted lehengas and sarees are also there. So the whole idea is to introduce practical clothing into winter festive wear. “I am” celebrates the flawed authentic woman who can be anything and everything. Our collection upholds the idea that more than the eyes of the beholder, beauty lies within you, the real you.
